MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most advanced and safe diagnostic methods. It allows us to "look inside" the body and obtain the clearest possible images of organs, tissues, and blood vessels without the use of X-ray radiation. For the patient, this means accurate diagnosis without harm to health. Our hospital operates three MRI scanners of different capacities simultaneously. This allows us to choose the optimal option for each patient — from basic diagnostics to expert-level examinations.

An expert-level scanner with the maximum magnetic field strength, used in the world's leading medical centers. Thanks to its ultra-high resolution, it allows visualization of the finest details inaccessible to other scanners.

Main advantages:

  • ultra-high image clarity — even the smallest pathological changes can be detected;
  • early diagnosis of tumors, vascular disorders, multiple sclerosis, and other neurological diseases;
  • precise vascular mapping (MR angiography) without significant use of contrast;
  • reduced examination time, which increases patient comfort;
  • indispensable in complex clinical cases where maximum accuracy is required.
МРТ 1.5 Tesla

The most widespread format in the world, considered the «gold standard» in diagnostics. This scanner provides the optimal ratio of image quality, examination speed, and patient comfort.

Main advantages:

  • high quality of visualization for most organs and systems;
  • ability to examine the brain and spinal cord, spine, joints, abdominal, and pelvic organs;
  • fast scanning, convenient even for patients who find it difficult to lie still for long periods;
  • suitable for both elective and urgent (emergency) examinations;
  • versatility — suitable for a wide range of clinical cases.
МРТ 0.25 Tesla

☎️ Appointment by phone: +380 98 841 9390

This is an open-type low-field scanner. It is particularly suitable for patients who have difficulty tolerating enclosed spaces, as well as for children or the elderly. Although the resolution of such images is lower than that of high-field scanners, it is effective for basic examinations.

Main advantages:

  • the open design reduces feelings of claustrophobia and increases comfort;
  • possibility to examine patients for whom high-field magnets are contraindicated;
  • suitable for diagnosing diseases of the musculoskeletal system, large joints, and some abdominal organs;
  • useful for indicative diagnostics in cases where ultra-high detailing is not required.
Advantages of Examination at Mechnikov Hospital
Patients receive diagnostics at the highest level thanks to the combination of modern equipment and the experience of our doctors. Our hospital is equipped with three MRI scanners of different capacities — 0.25 Tesla, 1.5 Tesla, and 3 Tesla. This allows us to choose the optimal option for each case: from basic examinations to high-precision expert-class studies.
Different power levels — for different needs.

From the open 0.25 Tesla scanner for patients with claustrophobia to the state-of-the-art 3 Tesla scanner for complex clinical cases.

Experienced radiologists and specialized consultants.

They accurately interpret the results and immediately recommend the next steps.

Comprehensive approach.

Within a single facility, you can undergo an examination, get a consultation, and receive a complete treatment plan.

Patient comfort.

Fast delivery of results and attention to psychological well-being during the procedure.

Comfort for the patient.

The wider tunnel of the scanner reduces the feeling of claustrophobia, and modern technologies ensure a lower noise level during the procedure.

Indications for Prescription
A doctor may recommend an MRI in the following situations:
Brain examination.

Detection of tumors, strokes, multiple sclerosis, and inflammatory processes.

Examination of the spine and joints.

Diagnosis of intervertebral hernias, degenerative changes, injuries, or inflammatory processes.

Check-up of the abdominal and pelvic organs.

MRI allows visualization of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, uterus, ovaries, and prostate with high detail.

Assessment of the spread of oncological processes.

MRI helps determine the exact boundaries of a tumor and the condition of adjacent organs.

How the Examination is Performed

The patient lies on a special table that slides into the scanner's tunnel. You must lie still during the examination. The procedure lasts — from 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the area being examined. If contrast is used, it is administered intravenously.

MRI is completely painless, and the only discomfort may be associated with the operational noises of the scanner. For the patient's convenience, headphones or earplugs are provided.

What Results Can Be Obtained

Using MRI, the doctor can see:

  1. The structure of the brain and spinal cord. This allows for the detection of tumors, hemorrhages, inflammation, and other pathologies.
  2. The condition of the spine and joints. Hernias, arthrosis, and damage to ligaments and cartilage are visible.
  3. Organs of the abdominal cavity and pelvis. The condition of the liver, pancreas, kidneys, and female and male reproductive organs can be evaluated.
  4. Blood vessels. MR angiography helps identify narrowing, aneurysms, or blood clots.

Thus, MRI — is a universal method that covers practically all organs and systems.

    Clinical Case

    A 32-year-old female patient complained of headaches and periodic dizziness. A neurologist prescribed a brain MRI on a 3 Tesla scanner. The study revealed a small vascular malformation that could not be seen on a conventional, lower-field MRI. Thanks to early detection, the correct treatment was selected, and complications were prevented.

    Post-Examination Recommendations

    • Return to your normal lifestyle. MRI requires no recovery or special restrictions.
    • If contrast was administered — drink plenty of water. This will help flush it out of your body more quickly.
    • Show the results to your doctor. They will explain the conclusion and determine the next steps.

    We invite you to undergo an examination at our hospital. Modern equipment and the experience of our specialists will help detect even the smallest changes in a timely manner and select the optimal treatment!
