Rehabilitation Center

When a person takes their first steps, holds a cup, or simply smiles again after a severe injury or illness, it is the result not only of medical treatment but also of extensive rehabilitation. This is exactly why the Mechnikov Hospital Rehabilitation Center was established—a modern facility where a team of specialists helps patients regain movement, strength, and confidence in their abilities. The Center has been operating in its current form since March 2024. During this time, it has become a place where physicians, therapists, psychologists, and speech-language pathologists work in synergy—all understanding that true recovery begins when a person feels like themselves again.

Recovery as a Pathway to Life

The center's primary goal is to restore patients' motor function, independence, and quality of life following injuries, surgeries, or severe illnesses. We provide rehabilitation for patients recovering from strokes, traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, fractures, and neurosurgical interventions, as well as those with nervous or musculoskeletal system disorders.

Rehabilitation at the center is more than just exercises. It is a gradual, well-designed process that combines physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, and psychological and social support. Each specialist works within their area of expertise, but all share a single goal: to help the individual return to an active, fulfilling life.

Multidisciplinary Team

The heart of the Rehabilitation Center is its team. The facility employs five physical and rehabilitation medicine physicians, all of whom are top-category specialists. One of them is a Candidate of Medical Sciences and an associate professor at the Department of General Medicine with a course in Physical Therapy at Oles Honchar Dnipro National University.

Working alongside them are 26 mid-level medical professionals: nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, and social workers. This is a true multidisciplinary team where every specialist understands their role in the patient's recovery.

Every day, the team discusses each patient's progress, plans their physical workload, and adjusts their rehabilitation program. This collaborative approach allows us to see the patient not merely through the lens of a diagnosis, but as an individual with their own goals and dreams.

Expert Opinion

“Rehabilitation is not just about exercises or medical treatment; it is a pathway to independence. We teach a person to trust their body again, to find balance, to speak, to move, to live.

Our greatest joy is when a patient says, ‘I did it, I can do it again.’” notes one of the center's physicians, emphasizing that successful rehabilitation relies on a combination of professional expertise and continuous support for the patient at every stage of their recovery journey.

Modern Rehabilitation Approaches

The Mechnikov Hospital Rehabilitation Center is designed as a unified recovery space where patients receive comprehensive care across all necessary disciplines:

Physical Therapy

Individual and group sessions focused on developing strength, flexibility, coordination, and balance are held in our spacious gymnasiums.

We use specialized equipment for gait, balance, respiratory, and endurance training. Every movement is practiced gradually, tailored to the patient's physical capabilities.

Occupational Therapy

The goal of this discipline is to teach a person to be independent again. Patients regain skills for self-care, cooking, computer use, and operating household appliances. This is a crucial step toward returning to normal daily life.

Speech-Language Therapy

Our specialists help restore speech and improve articulation, pronunciation, and language comprehension. Following a stroke or traumatic brain injury, this is often a critical step toward regaining full communication abilities.

Psychological Support

Emotional well-being is just as vital to recovery as physical health. The center employs psychologists who help patients overcome fear, anxiety, and fatigue, accept physical changes, and find internal motivation.

Social Adaptation

A social worker assists in organizing post-discharge life, processing documents, and finding resources for continuing rehabilitation at home or in an outpatient setting.

Physiotherapy

Our specialized treatment rooms offer electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, laser therapy, ultrasound, and phototherapy. These modalities reduce pain and inflammation, promote faster healing, and improve muscle tone.

State-of-the-Art Equipment and Diagnostics

To assess a patient's condition, the center utilizes equipment to measure strength, balance, coordination, respiration, gait, and endurance. When necessary, other modalities are integrated, such as functional diagnostics, ultrasound, X-rays, MRI, laboratory tests, and electromyography (EMG).

Thanks to this comprehensive approach, our specialists obtain a complete clinical picture of the patient's condition, enabling precise rehabilitation planning.

In complex cases, we utilize telemedicine consultations, allowing multiple specialists from different fields to evaluate the patient and collaboratively determine the optimal treatment strategy.

Comprehensive Treatment and Monitoring

Rehabilitation at the center is not limited to physical exercises. When necessary, we incorporate pharmacotherapy, dietary adjustments, and physiotherapeutic procedures. After discharge, our specialists maintain contact with patients, provide online consultations, and help adapt the recovery program for home environments.

The center is contracted with the National Health Service of Ukraine (NHSU),which allows patients to receive inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation free of charge under the state Medical Guarantee Program.

Inpatient Accommodations

The department provides a comfortable environment for both treatment and rest. It features 17 semi-private rooms (two to three beds per room) equipped with everything needed—comfortable beds, private bathrooms, modern furniture, and a nurse call system. Patients receive round-the-clock care, balanced meals, and attentive staff support. Relatives may visit patients during designated hours, and a daybed rehabilitation program without an overnight stay is available for outpatient care.

Prevention and Continued Recovery

At the Rehabilitation Center, significant emphasis is placed on preventing chronic conditions and recurring injuries. Patients are taught proper physical activity, breathing techniques, and movement hygiene. Educational sessions are also provided so individuals understand how to maintain their bodily health going forward.

If you or your loved ones are recovering from a stroke, injury, surgery, or complex illness, you do not have to face this battle alone.

The team at the Mechnikov Hospital Rehabilitation Center is ready to help you return to an active life, regain movement, and restore your self-confidence.
